WordPress Website Development

WordPress website development gives your business a site that looks the part and works hard behind the scenes. We build custom WordPress websites for companies across Canada, from small service firms to growing brands that need room to expand. Every project starts with your goals, your audience, and the actions you want visitors to take. From there we design a clean layout, write tidy code, and set up an editor your team can use without calling a developer for every change. The result is a fast, secure website that ranks well, loads quickly on phones, and turns visitors into inquiries. No bloated templates and no locked in page builders, just a site built for how your business actually runs.

Who this is for

  • A business launching its first proper website and wanting one its own staff can update
  • A company replacing a slow, dated or template-built site that no longer reflects the brand
  • A team that has outgrown a site builder and needs forms, integrations or content that the builder cannot handle
  • An organization that must meet accessibility or privacy obligations and wants them built in rather than patched on

What's included

  • Custom design mapped to your brand and audience
  • Mobile first layouts tested on real devices
  • Editable content blocks your team controls
  • On page SEO structure and clean markup
  • Contact forms and lead capture that work
  • Security hardening and spam protection
  • Speed tuning for Core Web Vitals
  • Training so your team can run the site

Scope: what is in and what is usually separate

A fixed-scope quote only works if the scope is clear. This is how we usually draw the line; anything in the right column can be added and priced separately.

Included in a typical quoteQuoted separately or not included
Discovery call, page list and written scopeCopywriting and photography (we can recommend people)
Custom design of the key page templatesOngoing SEO campaigns and content marketing
A hand-built theme with editable blocksA WooCommerce store (quoted as its own service)
Contact and lead forms routed to your inbox or CRMCustom plugins beyond standard integrations
On-page SEO structure, redirects from the old site, analyticsHosting fees, domain fees and premium plugin licences
Speed tuning, security hardening, launch and trainingMonthly maintenance (optional plan after launch)

How we approach it

  1. Discovery. We map who the site is for, what each visitor should do, which pages you need and which systems the site must talk to. You get: a written scope, page list and fixed quote.
  2. Design. We design the home page and the two or three templates that carry most of the site, then extend the system to the rest. You get: approved layouts for every template before any code is written.
  3. Build. We code a custom theme with editable blocks, connect forms and integrations, and load your content on a staging site. You get: a working staging link you can review every week.
  4. Test. We check every page on real phones and desktops, run Core Web Vitals, test forms end to end and fix what we find. You get: a test report and a launch checklist.
  5. Launch and handover. We point the domain, set up redirects and monitoring, and walk your team through editing the site. You get: a live site, documentation and every account in your name.

What you receive at handover

  • The custom theme and any child theme, in a Git repository you own
  • Design files for every template
  • Editor training and a short written guide
  • Hosting, domain, analytics and plugin accounts in your name
  • A redirect map and launch checklist
  • A defect warranty period on what we built

Custom theme, page builder or premium theme?

There is no single right answer. It depends on who will edit the site, how fast it has to be and how much of the design is yours.

OptionWhen it fits
Custom theme with block editor (our default)You want the site fast, on brand and editable by non-technical staff, and you expect to keep it for years.
Custom theme plus a page builderYour marketing team already knows a builder and needs to create landing pages without a developer. Expect some speed cost.
Premium theme, customizedBudget is tight, the design does not need to be unique and the theme is well maintained. We will say if the theme is a bad bet.
Headless WordPressYou need an app-like front end, very high traffic or content reused across several channels. See our headless service.

What a WordPress website costs: the drivers

People search for a single WordPress website cost, and there is not one. The same brand can need a five-page site or a fifty-template platform. We quote fixed-scope after a free call; these are the things that move the number.

  • Number of page templates. Pages that share a layout are cheap to add. Each distinct template needs design, build and testing.
  • How custom the design is. A full bespoke design costs more than extending an agreed system across new pages.
  • Features and integrations. Booking, CRM, email marketing, membership or multilingual setups each add scope and testing.
  • Content migration. Moving hundreds of posts, images and redirects from an old site is real work, especially if the old site is messy.
  • Accessibility and compliance targets. Building and auditing to WCAG 2.0 AA takes longer than a standard build.
  • Timeline. A rushed launch needs more people in parallel, which costs more than the same work over a normal schedule.

See the pricing page for how we scope and quote, or send a brief through the contact page for a written estimate.

How long it takes

A focused site usually launches in 3 to 6 weeks and a larger build in 6 to 12 weeks, counted from the day discovery starts.

  • Content readiness is the biggest factor: sites with final copy and images at the start of the build launch weeks earlier.
  • Each third-party integration adds test time, especially when we are waiting on logins.
  • Review speed on your side. One decision maker keeps each review to days.
  • Scope changes are welcome but each one is quoted and scheduled first.

Risks and how we manage them

  • Losing search traffic at launch. We crawl the old site, map every URL to its new home and test redirects before the switch.
  • A site nobody can edit. Editable blocks, a training session and a written guide are part of every build.
  • Plugin bloat slowing the site. We build features into the theme where sensible and keep the plugin list short and well maintained.
  • Forms that silently fail. Every form is tested end to end at launch and monitored afterwards under a maintenance plan.

A worked example (illustrative)

Illustrative only. A twelve-person accounting firm has a six-year-old site on a premium theme. It needs about 14 pages across four templates (home, service, team, article), a consultation form that posts to its CRM, and redirects for 60 old URLs. Content is ready. That is a mid-sized build: roughly two weeks of design, three to four weeks of build and test, and launch in week six or seven.

Why choose us

  • Sites built by developers, not template resellers
  • Clean code that stays fast as you add content
  • Clear communication and honest timelines
  • Support plans available after launch

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Most business sites take a few weeks from kickoff to launch, depending on page count and how ready your content and images are. We give you a clear timeline after the discovery call so you know what to expect at each stage.

Yes. We build editable content blocks and give your team a training walkthrough so you can update text, images, and pages without touching code. If you would rather hand off updates, we offer maintenance plans too.

We can if you prefer one, but by default we build lightweight custom blocks in the WordPress editor. That keeps your site fast and avoids the code bloat that heavy page builders often add.

Yes. We build clean markup, proper heading structure, fast loading pages, and mobile friendly layouts, which are the technical foundations search engines reward. Content and ongoing SEO work sit on top of that base.

We can recommend reliable hosting for WordPress and handle the setup and migration. If you already have a host you like, we work with that as long as it meets the requirements for a fast, secure site.

It depends on the number of templates, how custom the design is, the features and integrations, and how much content moves over. We do not publish a rate card; we send a written fixed-scope quote after a free call. Our guide on what a WordPress website costs explains each driver.

Yes. Most projects start from an existing logo, colours and at least draft copy. If you need copywriting or photography we can recommend people, and the design allows for real content lengths rather than placeholder text.

It stays live and untouched. We build on a private staging site, then switch the domain over at launch with redirects in place, so there is no gap.
