Our Process

The four steps of our WordPress development process, from discovery and strategy through design, development and launch, with clear scope and fixed pricing throughout.

Every project is priced to its scope

We do not publish fixed price tiers, because no two websites are the same and a sticker price would either overcharge a simple site or undersell a complex one. Instead, we look at what you actually need and give you a clear, fixed-scope quote. It is free, it takes a couple of minutes to start, and there is no obligation. Getting a quote never hurts.

The four steps

What happens at each stage

Durations are typical ranges for a WordPress website. Your quote comes with a milestone plan specific to your project.

Step 1

Discovery & Strategy

What happens. We learn your goals, users and constraints, then agree on scope, features and a fixed-scope quote. This is where we decide what to build first and what can wait.

What you get. A written scope, feature list, milestone plan and a fixed quote with no surprises.

What we need from you. A short call, examples of sites you like and dislike, access to your current site and analytics if you have them, and a decision on who signs off.

Typical duration. 1 to 2 weeks

Step 2

Design & Prototype

What happens. We turn the scope into wireframes, then a clickable prototype you can try. We test it with users where it helps, and package the result as a design system.

What you get. Wireframes, an interactive prototype and a design system your developers can build from.

What we need from you. Your logo and brand assets, real or draft copy for the key pages, and feedback within a few days of each review.

Typical duration. 2 to 4 weeks

Step 3

Development & Testing

What happens. Senior engineers build the site in short cycles, with the theme, plugins and integrations. We test on real devices and share a staging link so you see progress every week.

What you get. A working site on a staging link, tested on real devices, with weekly demos and clear release notes.

What we need from you. Logins for the tools we integrate (payments, booking, CRM, email), final content and images, and someone to click through the staging site each week.

Typical duration. 3 to 10 weeks

Step 4

Launch & Support

What happens. We set up hosting, move the site to your domain and check that everything works, from forms to speed. After launch we monitor the site and can keep improving it under a support plan.

What you get. A live website on your domain, plus monitoring, updates and a support plan if you want one.

What we need from you. Access to your domain registrar and hosting, a launch date, and a decision on whether you want a maintenance plan.

Typical duration. ongoing

What moves the timeline

The build itself is usually the most predictable part. The things that stretch a project are almost always outside the code.

FactorEffect on the schedule
Content readinessThe single biggest factor. Sites with final copy and images at the start of development launch weeks earlier than sites waiting on text.
Number of decision makersOne person signing off keeps reviews to days. A committee can add a week per review round.
Third-party accessWaiting for logins to payment, booking, CRM or MLS accounts stalls integrations even when the code is ready.
Scope changes mid-buildWelcome, but each one is quoted and scheduled first, so it moves the launch date rather than the budget.
Custom integrationsAnything that talks to an outside system needs test accounts and edge-case testing, which adds time in step 3.
Store or membership setupProducts, variations, tax, shipping and roles all need real data and test orders before launch.

Decisions we ask you to make early

  • Block editor or page builder. We default to lightweight custom blocks because they keep the site fast. If your team already knows a page builder, say so in discovery.
  • Who writes the copy. Your team, a copywriter, or us. Each is fine, but it has to be decided before design so the layouts fit the words.
  • Hosting. Keep your current host if it meets the requirements, or let us set up managed WordPress hosting in your name.
  • What launches first. A smaller first release that goes live sooner often beats a larger site that waits for every page.

Common mistakes this process is designed to prevent

  • Starting design before the page list is agreed, then paying for layouts that never get used.
  • Building on the live site instead of staging, so visitors see half-finished pages.
  • Leaving redirects to the last day of a redesign and losing search rankings.
  • Handing over a site nobody on your team knows how to edit.
  • Skipping a written scope, which is where surprise invoices come from.

Clear steps, no surprises

Because scope and price are set before development starts, you always know what comes next and what it costs. If you want to change scope along the way, we quote the change first so there are never surprise invoices. Every project also includes a warranty period in which we fix defects in what we built at no charge.
